Setting New Standards for Better Treatment
Backed by the full recognition and prestige of the University of Southern California, one of the world’s leading academic research institutions, USC University Hospital and USC Norris Cancer Hospital place patients and their families first. Both hospitals are staffed by The Doctors of USC who are also faculty at the renowned Keck School of Medicine of USC.
Within this integrated academic medical center setting, located on the university’s Health Sciences Campus, is the Center for the Comprehensive Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation. The Center’s team of scientists, electrophysiologists, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and nurse specialists are renowned nationally for its complete diagnostic and treatment services. All work together as members of the USC Cardiovascular Thoracic Institute.
Understanding Atrial Fibrillation
AF, or A-fib, is the most common type of cardiac arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm). It involves the two upper chambers (atria) of the heart. Its name comes from the fibrillating, or quivering, of the heart muscles of the atria, instead of the standard, coordinated contraction typically found in healthy hearts. Nearly two million people in the U.S. are currently living with this condition. However, those who walk through our doors are treated uniquely, and as individuals – no cookie cutter medicine.
Our services include:
- 3D mapping and intracardiac ultrasound to guide catheter treatments.
- Minimally invasive surgery techniques.
- Combined endocardial and epicardial approaches.
- Medication treatments.
- Wireless arrhythmia monitoring to aid treatment decisions.
At USC, we focus on the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal heart rhythms. There are many different types. We offer full diagnostic services and a vast array of treatment options.
